This process includes a number of different steps, all of which help your character become animation ready. Once inside Character Animator, use the tools provided to put your puppet together. These positions can once again be assigned to keyboard triggers for quick access during animation. Just as we did with eyebrows and mouth positions, it’s important to create several hand configurations, including thumbs up, thumbs down, hand open, hand closed, and any other orientation you might want. Layer order is important since you want an arm and a leg to be behind the torso, while the others are in front. Create arms, hands, legs, feet, and a torso in your original Photoshop/Illustrator file, and then group the attributes accordingly. As usual, a great feature of working in Adobe programs is the ability to work with several applications at once. Once imported into Character Animator, you can tag all of your attributes, letting the program know which layer corresponds with which attribute. Use grouping to keep all of your attributes organized. Now you can record, livestream, or do whatever you want with your new character. Puppet Maker strips out all the unnecessary custom parts you didn’t select to make a lean, optimized Photoshop artwork file and Character Animator puppet. When you’re happy with your look, name your character in the upper-right corner and click the Generate button. These will be the triggers you’ll see included in your final puppet as well. The Play section includes triggers to test your puppet with, such as eyelid states, different backgrounds, and more. There are no predetermined categories here - creators can make whatever categories they want, from tee-shirt designs to props. Or try clicking the Randomize button to quickly cycle through randomly selected options. In the Customize section, you can click icons to get a live preview of your custom character on the right. There are 11 built in styles, with plenty of others available online. Instead of only allowing for one character style, Puppet Maker will allow creators from all over the world to make their own unique puppets. Hover over the thumbnail to see a preview of its diverse options, or click one to preview it and view its detailed customization options. At the top you will see a selection of styles. You can also reach this window by going to File > Open Puppet Maker. This will open up the Puppet Maker window. When you first open up Character Animator, click the button in the new middle card on the home screen to launch Puppet Maker.
